EVENT DESCRIPTION
Big Sky Documentary Film Festival showcases the best in documentary film from around the world and is the largest documentary film festival in the American West. The festival attracts more than 20,000 people and screens over 150 films from around the globe during the 10-day event. Film screenings take place at The Wilma, The Roxy, the Hellgate Elks Lodge and the all new ZACC theater. During the festival the DocShop filmmakers forum presents panels, workshops and master classes for filmmakers, innovators, students, and media industry leaders to explore cutting-edge ideas that are shaping the field of documentary film today.
The festival hosts over 200 visiting artists, presents an average of 150 non-fiction films, and offers a variety of exciting events at the historic theater The Wilma and neighboring downtown Missoula venues.

Rooted in the heart of the mountain west, the Big Sky Film Institute nurtures and elevates non-fiction films that have the power to transform our world, our culture, our youth and ourselves. A non-profit artist development institute, BSFI is the home of the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana.
