VIDEO: Guess What Happens When These Kids Get Way Too Close to Yellowstone Bison

Ah, childhood. The writer Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote that "childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies." But I don't think there were bison or tourists wherever Edna was from.

Which isn't to say that a child dies in this video, because of course, we wouldn't show you that. But we're not above showing you a whole group of children flirting with disaster.

The video, taken at Yellowstone a few years ago, shows a group of children approaching a bison next to the boardwalk. The bison is not happy about the children approaching, and he does everything he can to tell them so by gesturing with his head, lowing, and stomping. But the plucky children, blessed with the fecklessness of youth, persist in getting closer and closer. Finally, there are several children within feet of him on his right and his left, and the bison starts feeling hemmed in.

So he charges.

Most of the kids get clear within a few seconds, but the smallest kid happens to run exactly where the bison charges. Pretty soon the bison's after the kid, who can't be more than eleven, turning on a dime and kicking up a lot of dust tearing after him.

Thank God the kid isn't hurt. Thank God, in fact, that none of the assorted baker's dozen or so kids weren't hurt.

The thing that really gets us is the man seen laughing in the last few seconds, as if it's one of the funniest things ever to occur. Is he their father? Irresponsible drunk uncle? Does he stand to make money or inherit property if the kid dies or something?  What is so funny?

See the whole video below, and leave a comment if you get the joke this gentleman finds so darn hilarious!

It's a big huge, wild buffalo. It's not a cute little puppy. If you want close up photos of the wild buffalo, stand back a ways and get a zoom lens for your camera.

Why do people use our parks like a petting zoo.

The guys laugh at the end was a nervous laugh. Some people deal with stressful situations, especially dangerous ones, that they've managed to live through unscathed with a nervous laugh. It's their mind and body's way of releasing that nervous terrified energy from the brain having a hard time processing. I have known quite a few like that. You also have those that laugh because they're idiots who think it's cool to have escaped such a fire situation and genuinely do not care or do not fathom the reality of the situation.
