 Hamerly\, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemi
 stry and the recipient of a Kopriva Graduate Fellowship\, will present "Le
 tting Biology Do the Heavy Lifting" as part of the Kopriva Science Seminar
  Series. The ability to rapidly and reproducibly differentiate complex bio
 logical fluids is an important part of everything from healthcare to food 
 production. To address this need\, Hamerly developed a protein sensor assa
 y that greatly reduces the number of molecules seen by a mass spectrometer
 \, resulting in decreased time spent analyzing data and increased rates of
  biomarker discovery. Taking advantage of a ready-made biological detector
 \, Hamerly's protein sensor assay has had great success in tracking biolog
 ical changes as cells recover from oxidative stress and animals respond to
