VIDEO: Young Hunter Shows a Cool Head When Bear Scales Tree Stand
September 11, 2021
Being calm. Silent. Strong. These are some of the traits that mark the stereotypical western mountain man hero -- and scientists say they've got the type all analyzed and described.
Whatever you call it, this 14-year-old Alberta hunter's got it in spades.
Bears are remarkable climbers, from the little ones to the big boars. If a bear is chasing you, it is inadvisable to attempt to climb a tree to escape unless you have at least a 75 meter lead on the bear -- those suckers are fast.
Because when a bear runs into our tree stand, you can bet the first thing we'll do is scream our heads off, followed by faint dead away, with the possible bonus step of voiding our bowels in there somewhere.
Not this kid. He's so stoic he doesn't even let his face betray any feeling about the encounter one way or the other. It may be the face, in fact, that the kid is some sort of Terminator-style robot, and really doesn't feel one way or the other about a bear (even a black bear) that close to his face.
Regardless, the young hunter shows impressive resolve and weathers the entire encounter like its nothing. It's reminiscent of this hunter's encounter with a black bear, although this gentleman, decidedly less calm, can't keep from laughing about it while it's happening!
