"The Eagle" - Portrait of Blackfeet Natives in Glacier by Roland Reed

This dramatic and remarkable photo depicts several Blackfoot tribe members posing on an overlook in Glacier National Park.  The photo was taken in 1913 by mid-western photographer Roland Reed, best known for his series of portraits of Blackfoot tribe members in the then-very recently established Park.

The Blackfeet men are wearing some of their ceremonial regalia and are pictured looking off at the scenery.

Reed's series of Glacier photographs were taken between 1910 - 1915.

In the years since, this has become a truly iconic piece of Western Americana, full of both hope and sadness, and plenty of stunning natural beauty.

Be sure to zoom in on the picture and inspect all of the fine details!
