About Distinctly Montana
Who we are
Distinctly Montana is a quarterly magazine about Montana: its history, its people, its towns and its wild places. We published our first issue in 2001, and we're still Montana owned. A new issue mails four times a year, in March, June, September and December. Christopher Muhlenfeld is the publisher and Joe Shelton is the editor-in-chief. They lead a dedicated team of writers, editors, photographers, designers, production managers and account representatives who personally take care of each advertising partner.
What's in the magazine
Long stories on Montana history, profiles of the people and places that make the state what it is, and pieces on wildlife, the outdoors, food, art and books. On the website you'll also find web-only columns like The Old Broke Rancher, our podcast Distinctly Montana Stories (episodes adapted from the magazine and narrated by Joe Shelton), the Best of Montana readers' poll, and past issues you can read page for page, back to Winter 2010-11.
