This weekend in Montana: Oct 30 to Nov 1

A ghost hunt in Butte, a fight night in Black Eagle, ten years of Haunted Peaks in Big Sky and 32 spins in Billings.

On Sunday in Billings, a ballerina will spin 32 times on one foot without stopping, and the orchestra won't wait for her to get dizzy. The rest of us will check the forecast about that many times before Saturday, then put the snowsuit on under the costume anyway.

The spinning happens in World Ballet Company's Swan Lake at the Alberta Bair Theater on Sunday, with a live orchestra, 50 dancers and 150 hand-sewn costumes. The 32 turns belong to the Black Swan. Try not to count along out loud.

It's Halloween weekend, and the rest of Montana isn't sitting still either.

Big Sky's Haunted Peaks Festival turns ten and fills all three days: the Costume Climb and a community trunk or treat on Friday, then a fun run, a costume parade, a block party and a haunted house on Saturday. It closes on Sunday with a Día de Muertos celebration.

In Black Eagle, MT Finest Boxing puts on Nightmare On The Ropes, a Halloween fight night at the Black Eagle Community Center on Friday. It's the one Halloween party where nobody's asking about the punch.

Butte's Old St. James Hospital Ghost Hunt runs Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., an overnight paranormal investigation inside the building that opened as a hospital in 1881 and closed as one in 1962. Equipment is provided, spaces are limited and tickets are $129; it's for ages 18 and up, or 16 and 17 with an adult.

On Sunday, Missoula's Festival of the Dead brings workshops and a procession honoring those who have passed, a tradition the city holds close.

And early Sunday morning the clocks fall back, which hands every one of us an extra hour. In Montana, that's just enough to get halfway to the next thing on this list.
