Fires are a fact of life in Montana - every year in the late summer we have to deal with wildfires that threaten our homes and our property (and every year a few jackasses start a few of them, too).  It makes us doubly thankful for our brave firefighters and first responders, who go tirelessly into dangerous conditions for our sake.

But boy, are we thankful for the guys that fly these tankers, too.  The skill and judgment shown by these pilots are exceptional.

Just look at the layer of flame retardant dropped by this plane near Middle Fork, MT.  The event recorded in the video took place on October 4, 2020 when fires threatened the area.  The Yogo Fire, as it was known, burned for several days but is contained now. The cause of the fires were never determined.

The folks in this video were filming the plane coming in, and they are no doubt very thankful for the efforts of firefighters too, because it means that they get to keep their cabin, and all the memories they've collected inside.

But that doesn't mean that seeing that enormous tanker come in low didn't make one of the guys nervous - he can't help but move a little closer to the house proper.

Besides the efforts of the firefighters, snow ultimately helped put out the Yogo Fire, although the snow meant that some of the areas were not accessible, and so closures remained in place even late in October.

See the amazing video below, and leave a comment if you're thankful for Montana's first responders!
