VIDEO: This Pup and His Deer Friend Are the Best of Pals

What did people do to cheer up before cute animal videos on Youtube?  Those must have been very dark times.  Well, we've got an especially cute video for you this time, with nary an injured tourist or rutting bison in sight. 

The video shows Zig, the videographer's pup, making a new friend.  A curious young deer has approached the homeowner's fence to see what kind of creature Zig is.  The two seem to make friends almost immediately. 

Zig runs up and down the fence in excitement, wagging its tail and barking.  Occasionally Zig will look back at his owner as it to say "you getting this?"

In a comment on the original Facebook post containing the video, Zig's owner comments "Oh boy, did he want to get out of the pen.  But I figure he'd get bulldozed into the ground."  Another comment echoes the same sentiment: "I thought deer liked to stomp dogs!"  

It's true that deers and dogs, in less adorable situations, have an instinctually antagonistic relationship.  It's not hard to guess why as wolves are natural predators of deer.  But these two seem not to be burdened by any preconceptions about the other, only by a deeply ingrained urge to play!  That having been said, maybe it is a good thing they've got a fence separating them, just in case.  Some friendships thrive on constraints.

Here's to Zig and his new buddy.  Let them be reminders that sometimes the unlikeliest folks make the fastest of friends.
