VIDEO: Watch this felled tree "bleed" gallons and gallons of water

A bizarre and fascinating video uploaded to Youtube shows a recently felled tree.  After cutting into it with a chainsaw, the men discovered that it was absolutely full to bursting with what would appear to be water.

In the words of the men who filmed the video, "My friend and I were clearing a path to a tree stand. There was a tree that had fell in the pathway. We started to cut the tree up to move it and that’s when it started pouring water. It poured water for about 3-4 minutes."

Now, to the extent that trees are biological water siphoning systems, it makes sense that they would have some water in them.  Furthermore, this video was filmed in the woods of Kentucky, full of strange and alien trees unfamiliar to the likes of us Montana yokels.  But we wouldn't expect the number of gallons that come pouring, even spraying out of the tree.  It's almost as if the contents were under considerable pressure - the water doesn't come dribbling out.

We're also not experts in arboreal matters, but we've never heard of anything like this.  Could it be something specific to the kind of tree?

There are, it must be admitted, other possibilities too.  We're not sure why anyone would hoax this, but it would be relatively easy to conceal a hose under the trunk.  But honestly, that's not what we think is happening - the brown color of the water seems to be the kind of thing that a hoaxer might forget.  At any rate, it adds an air of authenticity.

It is known that trees retain some water, and that they even help feed streams and aquifers, but we've never quite seen this much before.  There are some varieties of trees known to contain water, and in some cases the water obtainable from the trees have been popular Native-American or early folk remedies for headaches or other ills.

Have you ever seen anything like it?  What do you think it is?

filled up with water. The tree is on a slope and the cut is on the low end. This creates the pressure on the water.

cottonwood tree can soak up to 500+ gallons of water a day. We cut a 6 foot diameter cottonwood and it was like turning on an outside tap. we went and had a long lunch and 4 hours later water was still coming out of the trunk we cut.
