The age-old question of why the chicken crossed the road seems quaint when compared to this new mystery: why did the bear cross the road three times?

Shot in British Columbia, the video shows the point of view of the driver, who is heading along the Stewart-Cassiar highway when he noticed a black bear. The bear is running along the road as well and decides to cross in front of the moving vehicle. Then he does it again, crossing back to the other side. Then, in a final burst of bruin bravado, the bear crosses a third time.

"What is he doing," laughs the driver.

The bear cuts it a little close, too, especially on the last crossing. The man has slowed his vehicle enough to keep it safe for the bear so it may not have been in any real danger, but still - he must be within six feet of the front bumper no his last crossing.

The Stewart-Cassiar Highway in British Columbia has one of the highest concentrations of bears in the world, so sightings aren't exactly uncommon.  But the behavior shown in this video seems more rare and may show that this bear is not nervous around roads or people.

Some female bears, most especially those with cubs, have learned that the road means relative safety for them and their cubs.  In the backcountry, where boar bears will sometimes roam, the mama bears have a much higher chance of losing a cub since the boars will try to kill a female's cubs and impregnate them with his own cubs.

At any rate, this bear's a real daredevil, and we're glad he (or she!) didn't get struck by the car.
