VIDEO: Rutting Bull Elk Have Disagreement In Playground
February 24, 2021
Clear out kids, this playground's in elk hands now.
Filmed in October 8 in Estes Park, CO, the video shows what happens when a lot of angry, agitated elk decided they want to get on the jungle jim and maybe show off in front of the girls.
The elk rutting season lasts from August until October, when they finally settle down a bit. Every year the elk rut results in a wealth of amazing footage of elk battles, particularly in places like Mammoth Hot Springs and Estes Park, CO, where elk more or less run the place.
The video shows a group of what would appear to be at least 30 - 40 elk, male and female, gathered together at the children's playground. Everything appears to be peaceful, but wherever you combine good looking females and hormonal bulls in heat, you're bound to get at least a little territorial violence.
And halfway through the video, the bulls oblige and put on a little show. And while the show may be for the benefit of the ladies, it was well enjoyed by the assembled wildlife watchers at the scene as well. And hopefully by you, too.
At any rate, it's nice to take a break from watching politicians fight, and watch animals do it instead. Although, if politicians had to settle their disputes by headbutting each other at 15 miles per hour, I think it would probably be a more honest profession, generally.
