VIDEO: Camera Captures Lightning Strike Hitting Cow in a Field

Cow struck by lightning in field
Source: Youtube

As the poet said, you never know for whom the bell tolls.  Well, the bell sure tolled for this poor Idaho cow stuck by lightning across from a gas station in Idaho, where CCTV captured the moment this poor bovine became a well-done steak.

It was business as usual outside the Creekside 66 convenience store near Albion, Idaho when CRACK, lightning split the sky.  The actual flash of lightning, which would have lasted a fraction of a second, is too brief for the camera to catch.  However, the sudden brightness shows up on the camera as a white bar of interference.  And when it's gone, so too was the poor soul of that Idaho cow.

Flash of lightning washes out camera

The cow, instantly dead, flops into the grass -- at least it didn't suffer.  The cows around him, smart enough to know something big and potentially bad just happened, cleared away from their fallen comrade.

May this footage serve as a reminder that however terrible 2020 has been so far, at least the sky hasn't attacked you yet (we apologize if you are a cow or have been struck by lightning this year -- in that case we've been very insensitive.)

See the amazing moment captured on video below:

Why weren't cows brought into barn during storm?
Katherine McKillop (not verified) , Fri, 09/04/2020 - 18:57
Most Ranchers have several hundred Cattle...No One has a Barn that big...
Brown (not verified) , Fri, 09/04/2020 - 19:41
When there's hundreds even thousands of cow you can't bring them into a barn it's impossible.
Davin (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 23:01

Frank (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 01:23
The cows weren't brought in to the barn because they refused to mooooove inside.

That storm could be up to 50 miles away as lightning can show up that far.
S. Clark (not verified) , Thu, 09/24/2020 - 18:24
Storms in this valley show up suddenly over the mountain you see in the background. I know because I live in that valley.
Mcclue (not verified) , Thu, 12/17/2020 - 22:30
Extremely rare for farmers to have a barn big enough. Also a giant waste of time to gather cows every time there is a storm
Dawn (not verified) , Mon, 03/22/2021 - 14:33
Are you serious?????
Karl (not verified) , Fri, 09/04/2020 - 15:35
Ranchers can't concievably "bring in the cows" for every chance of inclement weather. Besides, the odds of getting struck by lightning are about the same for cows as humans.
Crystal (not verified) , Fri, 09/04/2020 - 18:02
Farmers and ranchers can't afford outbuildings for every cow, piece of machinery, etc. We get taxed on every building on the place (even if you already paid taxes when purchased), machinery, etc yearly. Unfortunately most can't afford insurance either on livestock as it doesn't cover everything that could happen (disease, acts of God, etc). Even the USDA programs doesn't cover the loss of 1 head of livestock. You have to loose 2 to get a payment for 1 so farmers/ranchers constantly loose.

Weldon David E… (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 11:38
Guess that means the cow was struck was struck in the rear but not quite all the way to the rear.

It’s the ranchers fault for not attaching the lightning rods to each cow for this circumstance. Shame on him.
Nathan (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 19:07
Google "how lightning rods work", then think about what you typed here.

Google "Sick Burn" and sit back in satisfaction.
Jin (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 10:26
I googled and they say make the cows wear rubber boot is better than stick a lightning rob up its butt.
Mike (not verified) , Thu, 09/10/2020 - 10:21
Because ya cant trust lightening Rob. Thats why he has that name...
Cryg (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 06:42
I Wonder if 90% of cattle survive lightning strikes as humans do.
Tim (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 09:52
...cows around “him”... :-)

John white (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 12:45
That showed how stupid you are if lighting rod were attached to a cow the strike would fry the cow,why all the comments any way it's only a f'__ing cow
Pattie (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 09:48

Pretty sure it was a joke. ????
Damien Fitz (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 15:17
And, from that point forward Bessie was no longer considered a sacred cow.
Wait What (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 15:41
Weird how the cow the was struck was not behaving like the others, as in dropping it's head and eating, or wandering around. It was just static, head up, almost waiting. Almost as if it were singing Frank Santra's 'My Way' - 'And now, the end is near...I did it my way'
Texas (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 15:57
Cows don’t come into the barn (if you have a barn large enough to shelter your cattle) when you “want” them to come into the barn, they do it when “they” want to. When hurricanes hit (down here) they will shelter from wind and rain and cold (if you are lucky)....nevertheless you go out to check on them, and they are grazing. Interesting creatures. I hate this one was lost. I’ve heard of cattle lost because a fence was struck by lightening and all the cattle touching the fence line grazing were electrocuted. Luckily we have never lost one this way.
Chance (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 16:13
That cow is well done

Cracks me up. Why didn’t they bring them in? We heck, why not get them umbrellas as well.
Masks on (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 21:41
Notice the video after the strike that a large shadow moves along the ground toward the upper right-hand corner of the view. Ricochet lightning off of a plane flying over head.
Garnetta Reid (not verified) , Sat, 09/05/2020 - 22:41
It’s sad the cow was struck and killed but thankfully the other cows were not killed also.
Sue (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 14:01
If you look closely you can see the video is faked, altered with. Slow it down frame by frame and there is no lightning, just a band of white added across the middle, with the sky still showing above. FAKE VIDEO!
X5 Action (not verified) , Sun, 09/06/2020 - 19:42
So if it was faked , then what caused the cow to fall, because I also saw a shadow of what looks to be a plane that flew over immediately after the alledged lightening strike that could have spooked the cows and the birds, only what caused the cow to fall?
Don (not verified) , Tue, 10/20/2020 - 16:15
Maybe it was one of those "fainting cows", just like the fainting goats.

I was there that day, video is definitely NOT faked!
Scratch910 (not verified) , Mon, 09/07/2020 - 05:15
He should have realised that the grass is greener on the other side of the field.....lol
Sujoy Dutta (not verified) , Thu, 12/03/2020 - 06:20
I don't see much storm here, the cow has been killed by very focused electrical blast aliens. The aliens are regularly stealing livestock from the Himalayan region in India !

All the world governments are hiding the truth !
