VIDEO: Good Samaritan Frees Panicked Deer Tangled in Soccer Net

The human world wasn't meant for animals.  Even something as innocuous as a soccer net can become profoundly dangerous for wildlife, just as the side of a cliff is a little safer for a mountain goat than for the average person.  So when this deer got his antlers tangled up in a soccer net, the animal got understandably panicked.  As he began to thrash and jump, he only got himself more tangled up.

That's when the man filming the video, as good a Samaritan as you're likely to find, heard the commotion and came around to the front of his house.  When he saw what was happening, he decided he had to try to help free the animal.

The deer was panicked to the point where it may very well hurt itself if it continued to thrash that way much longer, whether by breaking his neck against the curb or by tearing his own antler out (by the end of the video, it is clear that his left antler is damaged, possibly separated from the skull).  The man taking the video saw this, went inside, and came back with clippers.

This is where it gets a little more complicated.  Probably in an attempt to use his mouth to free himself, the deer had gotten some fiber wound around his mouth.  So the man filming realized that if he were only to cut the soccer net and leave the deer to run away, the deer would still most likely be unable to get his mouth open.  Without being able to eat or drink, the deer would still be doomed.

So the man gets very close to the deer, trying to slip the small clippers in between the deer's face and the net wound around.  The deer, naturally, only gets more worked up, eventually kicking the man "pretty hard."  That's the price you pay for doing good deeds these days.

After several agonizing minutes, the man finally frees the deer, which rockets away on unsteady legs.  We don't know what happens next, but even if the deer's antler was broken off (and it is possible that this later in the season, as deer prepare to shed their horns), we assume the deer lived - and maybe had a few cool scars to show the does.

Actually i didn't live there. I was cutting the grass at my friend's father's house. Nobody else was around. The tool i used was a small wire cutter. It was the only thing i had in my truck at the time so i had to make it work.
