If you're a vegan, we have nothing but respect for you.  You've made a wise, eco-friendly choice.  A plant-based diet is good for the earth, and if we switched over, we'd probably be able to fit into our lucky jeans again before too long.  Vegans of the world, we salute you.

The thing that really gains you our respect is your willpower - your ability not to give in when you see a nice big juicy burger.

There's the sound of a nice big hamburger sizzling and the smell.  Oh, carmelized onions?  Sure, that sounds good, yeah, we'll have some.   A slice of cheese?  Yeah, why not throw one on too.  A second hamburger patty?  Why you devil, we're going to have to watch ourselves around you, aren't we?

Ahem, we forgot what we were talking about.

Oh yes: don't you think that's how grizzly bears must see cows?  Though bison were once a staple of grizzly diet before industrialized society put a stop to that by nearly eliminating the bison.  But even then, now that bison populations are on the rise, there are a few rare occasions when a grizzly gets to have a bite of bison.

But what they never get, and what they must really want, are domesticated livestock.  A bunch of cows in a field must look to them like a bunch of twinkies standing on a plate.  And yet, most grizzlies are smart enough to stay out of human areas for the most part, especially if the humans are correspondingly smart enough to secure their food waste.

And yet, it does happen that a bear will pick off some livestock here and there -- more likely a sheep or a chicken, but sometimes, a full cow.  While a black bear might dream of doing so, a grizzly is absolutely capable of doing so, if he has the opportunity.

And in this shocking video below, this big Wyoming bear's got motive, opportunity, and appetite.  Check out the video, and in the meantime I'm going to tuck into this here burger.  Oh, do you have any ketchup?

Wanting to prevent or at least minimize this situation is one of the reasons folks go vegan.
Less demand for beef, less incentive to run cattle on grizzly habitat. More space and resources for wild animals, including prey for the bear.

That is absolutely NOT a grizzly bear. It is a large black bear. It also is most likely a male and would eat it's own cubs if they were found by him.

That was the most ridiculous article I've ever read.

Absolutely horrifying to hear that poor cow's suffering and terror. I wish it would be that predators could at least instantly kill their prey efficiently so there was no suffering. Ranchers and farmers should implement electrical fencing and stronger ways that adapt to the predators in their environment instead of saving money by not shoring up the brraches and just shooting whatever kills their livestock because they didn't protect their livestock.

How can someone watch this and not do something to help the cow? Honk your corn for goodness sake... Scare the bear off. How would you like it, if a grizzly was snapping your neck and someone was filming this "unique " moment without lifting a finger to help you...?

The person honking should have run out of the car, run up to the bear and pushed the Grizzlie's head away from the cow. Why are people so heartless?!
( also my heart bleeds for the grass that was crushed during this whole episode).

Next time a Great White shark is biting your head off, I guess you 'll appreciate anyone or anything that tries to help you get out of the water. But why help you?... it's just nature take it's course Steve , so why interfere with nature to help you and spoil a perfectly good video ? Besides, you were trespassing in his domain so you were asking for it. Also, my heart bleeds for all the animals who got killed when they could have been saved if someone gave a damn. Funny, my heart doesn't bleed for the grass but I guess I'm heartless :)

Like that bear is worried about a car horn, lol. This is one reason i say there is no God. A god could have made reality anything it wished, but if real, would have chosen to make life need to feed on other life in order to survive. No loving or merciful god, anyway. Yeah, that's evolution, baby.

So many stupid comments!!! Its a bear doing what bears do !!.... We are moving in their homes... Haha... Natives have been living in theur homes for thousands of years !!!
DeS (not verified) , Wed, 09/09/2020 - 06:39
No-one is accusing the bear Harley... What part didn't you understand? I am saying people should try more to save a defenseless animal, when it's possible. I am certain the bear would have found something else to eat if the calf was rescued by the passerby. It's all about doing a good deed and about feeling compassion .

wait till the grizzlies move into your back yard. It will change your view. Most wildlife is moving into towns to escape. The predators will follow the food. Your kids are food and so are you and your pets. The forests are void of big game..
